Just checking in to quickly say that animal week was a bust. Okay, it wasn't a total failure but it was pretty rough. Ada was teething and I was trying to get ready for our trip. We did learn about different types of animals. The kids favorite thing was acting like animals. Then again, they do that every week. I guess this time was more exciting because it was for "school." They also really enjoyed making animals with play-doh. James makes a wicked snake. I didn't take any pictures and I returned all the library books without writing down a single title. Sheesh. The kids did LOVE the Bill Nye video I got on reptiles. I was a little concerned it would be too advanced because it said it was for 4th grade and up. The kids wanted to watch it over and over again and did eventually absorb everything he taught. They of course thought he was goofy and want to see more "Bill Nye the Science Guy." I did a different type of animal each day (reptiles, mammals, fish, etc) but if I did it again I would do it by habitat (farm, rainforest, desert, etc) and sort the animals from each habitat into the animal groups. I think it would be neat to keep a chart/graph throughout the week and see how each habitat stacked up. (Which habitat has the most mammals? Where do most of the reptiles live?) Hey, they aren't the only ones who are learning, I am too - that's why I am keeping notes about what works and what doesn't!
Speaking of learning, I cannot wait to start Church History week! I'll have lots of pictures for this one - I promise!
